Bhubaneswar, Dec 4:

Central trade unions, including the BJP affiliated Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC and AICCTU have announced an all India protest on December 5 opposing the move to shift to a system of self-certification by industries, replacing mandatory inspections, through an amendment to labour law.

The Odisha chapters of these organizations will organize protests and demonstrations in Bhubaneswar where a procession will be taken out from the railway station at 11 AM and move to lower PMG and organize a rally there the organisers said.

“PM is going for drastic changes, which will ultimately benefit the employers to hire-and-fire at will and harm working people. This is being done to give a free hand to the corporate. This will depress the wage levels and create a situation for low-paid apprentices in place of permanent labour and even contractual workers,” said Gurudas Dasgupta, general secretary, AITUC.

The labourers and low skilled workers will lose their rights and social security due to these amendments, which is aimed at benefiting the corporate sector, said AITUC in a press release.
