Odisha Sun Times Bureau
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Mar 4:

The Centre has blacklisted 69 NGOs including five in Odisha on the charge of creating instability in the development of the country with the help of overseas funding.

NGOThe five blacklisted NGOs of Odisha are Adima Jati Seva Samiti of Phulbani, Health Education Development Society of Bhubaneswar, Society for Development Action of Baripada, The Association and Society for Awareness of Human Society and Rural Advancement of Kalahandi and Vikash Parishad of Koraput.

“The decision of the Centre has come following the Intelligence Bureau (IB) reports that some of the blacklisted NGOs have stepped up campaign against Posco and Vedanta companies”, said Union minister of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju a statement in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

He said henceforth, these blacklisted NGOs will not be allowed to run their organisation with foreign funds.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Modi in an order on July last year had directed the concerned authorities to keep a close on these NGOs and their source of funding.

Besides, two International NGOs- Greenpeace International and Climate Works Foundation, were asked not to obtain foreign funds without the permission of the Home ministry.

The IB reports had also stated that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country has come down to 2-3 percent as some of the NGOs have tried to stall the development work of some multi-national companies.
