Centres assures all help to Odisha to tackle floods

The Centre has assured the Odisha government of all possible assistance to tackle the floods in the state. This was announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in the Rajya Sabha today.

floods 1Replying to the issue raised by the BJD member Bhupinder Singh, he said the Centre had rushed two helicopters to the state for relief and rescue operations on the request of the state government.

Describing the flood situation in Odisha as serious, Naidu said Union Home minister Rajnath Singh had a telephonic conversation with chief minister Naveen Patnaik. The government has taken up the matter seriously, he added.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Singh said a large number of people had been evacuated from the low lying areas of the rivers after their houses were swept away by floodwater. Besides, the flood had also caused massive damage to paddy crops in nearly two lakh hectares, he added.

Singh urged the Centre to help the Odisha government in the rescue and relief operations.
