CG seeks report on kneeling down of home guards in Odisha’s Baripada

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Commandant General (CG) of Home Guards, Binoy Kumar Behera today sought a report from Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police and Commandant of Home Guard in connection with the incident wherein four home guards were made to kneel down in front of the Mayurbhanj District Home Guard office at Baripada.

“I have sought a report from Mayurbhanj SP and Commandant of Home Guard on the matter. We will take action after we get the report,” informed Commandant General of Home Guards Binoy Kumar Behera.

Four home guards including a woman were made to kneel down in front of the District Home Guard office at Baripada by Reserve Inspector Ashok Kumar Sethi on June 25 for flouting dress code and not wearing the proper uniform while on duty.

These home guards were on Rath Yatra duty and were found without proper uniform during the inspection. Following the detection, Sethi had made them kneel down for two minutes in front of the District Home Guard office as disciplinary action.

“They are provided with uniforms, shoes, cap everything by the government. But they are not using them properly. They are not wearing the uniform during duty hours. It’s expected of them to follow the dress code. They were found wearing civilian dress over their uniforms while on duty on that day. We are being rebuked by our senior officers for their lapses. Despite having pointed it out repeatedly to them on this account they were not abiding by it. Two-three of them were given punishment for two-three minutes,” clarified Sethi.

Notably, the incident came to light after the picture went viral on social media.
