Chandbali displaces Bhubaneswar as hottest place in Odisha

After two days of topping the temperature charts, the capital city of Bhubaneswar yielded the hottest place in Odisha tag to Chandbali today.

While the mercury shot up to 42 degrees Celsiusin Bhubaneswar from 41.8 yesterday, Chandbali overtook it today recording a highest temperature of 42.3 degrees.

Besides Bhubaneswar and Chandbali, temperature went past the 40 degree mark at 12 other places in the state. They were Bhawanipatna (42), Titlagarh (41.5), Malkangiri (41.5), Angul (41.3), Jharsuguda (41.3), Baripada (41.2), Sambalpur (41.2), Talcher (40.6), Hirakud (40.7), Sonepur (40.2), Sundargarh (40) and Bolangir (40). and .

Mercury also nearly touched the 40 degree mark in Phulbani (39.4), Baleswar (39.2), Keonjhar (39.1) and Cuttack (39), the Met centre at Bhubaneswar said.

In many places across the state, trading and business establishments downed their shutters before noon while passenger vehicles remained off roads till late afternoon.

The Met office has warned that the heat wave will persist during the next 48 hours and temperature in most of the places would rise further.
