Child dies in Odisha after faling into open septic tank

Kuchinda, July 26 :

In a tragic incident, a three and a half year old child died today morning after he fell into a septic tank of a toilet in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, reports said. The incident happened at the septic tank of an under construction girls’ hostel in the premises of Balaram High School in Kusumi village under Kuchinda sub-division.

Reportedly, the three and half year old child, son of Kartik Kissan who stays adjacent to the School premises, fell into a rain water filled open septic tank of the toilet  in the premises while loitering with its mother at around 6 am in the morning.

The mother, who was unmindful of the incident, came to know about it only when two passersby informed her of a child floating in the tank.

The parents rescued the child and rushed him to the Sub-divisional hospital at Kuchinda where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.

The body of the deceased child has been kept at the hospital premises for post-mortem, reports said.

However, no one was available from the contractor’s side for their comments on why the under construction tank was left open and not barricaded to prevent any untoward incident till the filing of this report.
