Bhubaneswar, April 24:
The Odisha government today decided to extend the tenure of Justice RK Patra Commission of Inquiry, probing the chit fund scams in the state, by another six months.
“A notification to this effect will be issued very soon”, said Home secretary Vipin Saxena.
The decision of the government came after the Commission expressed its inability to submit the report within the specified time frame.
It may be mentioned here that the Commission, in a letter to the Home department on October 18, had sought an extension of its term and urged the state government to appoint a panel of at least three lawyers to assist it in carrying out the work as the number of petitions it received went up to several lakhs.
The Commission had to extend its deadline for receiving complaints from general public time and again as the number of affidavits kept piling up.
justice delayed is justice denied.
I am sure that even if the government extends the tenure of this commission for another ten years, there will no output. Inquiry and probing the chit fund scams by the state government is an eyewash.
