Bhubaneswar, Feb 26:

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the city bus service in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The city bus service , inaugurated via video conferencing from the state secretariat here by the chief minister, will provide services in Brahmapur, Gopalpur, Chhatrapur and Hinjilikatu for which 32 buses have been provided in four routes. Four of them will run in Brahmapur alone.

The service will be provided by Ganjam Urban Transport Services Limited (GUTSL).

An agreement has been signed with the OSRTC for maintenance of the service.

It may be noted that the state government had acquired new buses in December last year and had kept them under the open sky near Ambapua on the outskirts of the city. However, no operator had come forward to sign the deal.

The GUTSL has been formed under the chairmanship of the district collector. The other members of the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed for the purpose are the chairperson of the Brahmapur Development Authority and chairpersons of Hinjili, Gopalpur and Chhatrapur NACs.
