Civic body chairman resigns in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput Notified Area Council (NAC) Chairman Biswabhusan Patnaik today resigned from his post to facilitate impartial probe who was accused of misbehaving with a woman councillor.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader tendered his resignation to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) in the presence of District BJD president Jayaram Pangi.

According to reports, Biswabhusan Patnaik had allegedly misbehaved with the woman councillor Chandraprabha Hial of ward no 13 and also used objectionable language against her. Following this, the woman representative had filed an FIR with Town police station on January 26.

The civic body chairman also sent his resignation to party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“I stepped down from the post of chairman taking morality and image of the party into consideration. Besides, he resigned from the post to facilitate impartial probe into the allegations. This is a political conspiracy against me,” Biswabhusan Patnaik told reporters here.

On the other hand, the District Congress Committee (DCC) today put off its decision of Koraput bandh today alleging police inaction to arrest of the chairman following the latter’s resignation.

The district Congress unit had alleged that police were not acting against the chairman despite an FIR being filed against him.
