Class 8 girl raped in Odisha; accused arrested

Bhadrak: Police arrested a youth for allegedly raping a class 8 girl here in the district.

The accused was identified as Niranjan Jena (26), a resident of Paliabindha panchayat under Tihidi police limits.

He was booked under section 376(3) of IPC and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following complaint by the victim’s family.

According to reports, the youth raped the girl of his village behind a temple after dragging her on the road while she was returning to her home after purchasing grocery items from the market on Thursday evening.

After committing the crime, he fled from the spot.

The victim narrated the incident before her parents following which a case was filed against the accused.
