Class-IX girl gangraped in Odisha’s Nayagarh; video viral

A class-IX girl student of Sarankul area in Odisha’s Nayagarh district was allegedly gangraped by three minor boys who videographed the incident and uploaded it on internet following which the video went viral.

According to reports, the 14-year-old girl was gangraped near a Hanuman temple at Manpur here two months ago while the video became viral recently.

One of the accused has been identified as the victim’s classmate, reports added.

After the matter came to fore, a village meeting was called where the marriage of the prime accused and the girl was proposed.

However, the accused rejected the proposal.

The villagers then lodged a written complaint with Sarankul police last night after which a case was registered and the prime accused was arrested. Three other accused are absconding, reports said.

“This is an unfortunate incident and we are giving it top priority. It is an extremely sensitive matter. A complaint was lodged at the police station last night. Police have arrested the prime accused after conducting raid. Efforts are on to nab the other accused,” Nayagarh SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said.

“We will submit charge sheet after proper investigation into the incident,” the SP said.
