Class-X student drowns during Lord Ganesh idol immersion in Odisha

Angul: A Class-X student drowned in a pond during immersion of an idol of Lord Ganesh in Odisha’s Angul district today. The deceased has been identified as Chandan Parida (15) of Khandarbahal village under Nisha police limits in the district.

According to reports, some teachers and several students of Nisha High School, including Chandan, had gone to a nearby pond around 9.30 am for immersing the idol of Lord Ganesh which was worshipped in the school on the occasion of Ganesh Puja.

During the idol immersion, Chandan slipped into deep water. The teachers and his friends rescued him in an unconscious condition and took him to the district headquarters hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police have started investigation into the incident.
