Patnaik made the offer during his talks with Dr Satish Chandra, Director of NIMHANS, who was on a courtesy call on him at Naveen Nivas, said official sources.

Dr Chandra assured the Chief Minister that he would make all efforts for opening of a branch of NIMHANS, an institute of national importance, in the state.

In view of a large number of patients from the state turning up for treatment at NIMHANS daily, Chief Minister Patnaik urged Dr Chandra for opening of a helpdesk  there (Bengaluru) for the benefit of patients from Odisha. Dr Chandra said he will take immediate steps in that direction.

It was decided during the course of the talks that the state government will work in coordination with NIMHANS to provide assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the large number of poor patients from the state visiting the premier mental health institution for treatment.
