Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed officials to issue notification to upgrade Rama Devi Autonomous Women’s College of Bhubaneswar and Khallikote Autonomous College of Berhampur to universities.
The new universities will be operational from this academic year.
The government will allocate Rs 55 crore towards infrastructure development of Rama Devi College. Besides, 25 acres of unutilized land of Utkal University would be earmarked for the womens’ college to upgrade infrastructure. It will get its separate campus at a later date. This University will be accorded an ‘affiliating university’ status and would be renamed as ‘Rama Devi Women’s University’. All the women’s colleges under Utkal University will come under it.
Similarly, Khallikote Autonomous College would be renamed as ‘Khallikote University’ and shall be accorded ‘Cluster University’ status. Colleges such as Khallikote Autonomous College, Berhampur’s Binayak Acharya College, Gopalpur college and Chhatrapur Government Science College would come under its umbrella.
“The Chief Minister today directed to initiate the steps to convert Rama Devi Autonomous Women’s College to an affiliating university and Khallikote Autonomous College to a Cluster University. These universities will play important roles in research and research based education in the state. We will work towards improving the standards of education in these universities in coming days,” said Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigarhy.
The Government has also initiated steps to convert Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College of Sambalpur to a university for which it has sent a proposal to the Union Government for approval.
imagine after so many universities being created in spite of standards declining, another infamous private player vedanta is trying to push for a university. All the politicians and bureaucrats are being roped in to pass a bill in the state assembly.Some one should Naveen,not an idiot,to see sense.Education can’t be made in to an ATM to make money.
