Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a high-level delegation from the state today visited the Kimitsu Steel Works of Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC) in Japan.
During the visit, the delegation was given a tour of the facility and briefed on the plant's latest technologies and steel production processes.
NSC's Kimitsu Steel Works, located on land reclaimed from the sea, utilizes environmentally sustainable green technologies and has a large layout campus with green tree belts. The plant produces specialized steel products for downstream industries, such as the automobile industry.
During the visit, Chief Minister Patnaik expressed his admiration for NSC's commitment to excellence in steel production and the state-of-the-art facility. He discussed the possibility of utilizing similar green technologies in upcoming steel plants in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts, which will also focus on producing specialized steel products for downstream industries in Odisha.
Patnaik highlighted the potential for collaboration between NSC and Odisha, given the state's rich mineral resources and potential in the steel sector. He also assured NSC officials of the committed support of the Government of Odisha for Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India’s upcoming integrated steel plants in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. The projects will use significant volumes of iron ore fines, helping to add value to the mineral within Odisha, rather than exporting it.
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by NSC towards the delegation and hoped that the visit would strengthen the relationship between NSC and Odisha. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for the state delegation to learn about the latest technologies and processes used by NSC in steel production.
