Bhubaneswar, May 25:

After battling with cancer and penury, veteran Odisha actor Mira Mohanty finally had some succour – the promise of succour, to be more precise – when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked authorities on Sunday to provide free treatment to her.

Partial relief arrived for the versatile theatre actor of yesteryears, who set the stage on fire for decades, in the form of free treatment at the Capital Hospital, the premier state-run hospital in the city.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written to the Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital to provide free treatment to the actor from today.

After placing her application twice at the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell and pleading for help at Naveen Nivas, her request has finally been heard.

Following the death of her husband and son, she has been residing with her daughter-in-law and grand-daughter and has been struggling to meet ends due to her poor financial condition.

Her son died after a Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) van mauled him. Under compassionate grounds, the widow of the deceased was given a contractual job at BMC.

Though the government has addressed one of her grievances, she wants her daughter-in-law’s job to be made permanent so that she could lead a decent life.

Notably, the actor of the 60s has acted in Ollywood classics such as Jajabara, Trinath Mela, Samaya Bada Balaban, Sampoorna Ramayan, Pratidhwani and Subarna Sita.

Prior to this, she was also associated with Kalashree Theatre, Janata Rangamancha, Annapurna Theatre (A Group), Ekamra Theatre and many others.
