Commissionerate of Police files charge sheet against fake doctor, who married 18 women

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police today filed a 940-page charge sheet against fake doctor Ramesh Chandra Swain for allegedly duping women across seven states.

The charge sheet filed by the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar named Ramesh Chandra Swain, his second wife Kamala Tirkey, sister Rashmita Beura, Biswaranjan Das and Chitta Ranjan Pattnaik as accused.

Swain, who hails from Kendrapara district, married to 18 women across seven states over 38 years and duped them of lakhs of rupees. He was introducing himself as a doctor before the women.

Kamala Tirkey, who is Swain’s second wife and a medical practitioner, was allegedly helping him in the fraud. The Commissionerate Police had arrested her from Jharkhand in April. His sister also helped him in getting married multiple times and duping the women of money.

Based on complaint filed by a Delhi-based school teacher, who was married to Swain, the Mahila Police in Bhubaneswar had lodged a case in July 2021. During investigation it was found out that he had married several women while posing as a doctor.

He remained absconding after the case was registered and stayed with another wife in Assam.

About six months later, the Commissionerate Police nabbed Swain from his apartment in the city.

Swain, is father of five children, and had married his first wife in 1982.
