Common Payment Card System to be launched in Odisha capital

In a bid to make all payments through cashless transaction mode, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) is set to introduce Common Payment Card System (CPCS) for multiple usages in Odisha capital.

With implementation of system, the denizens can use a single smart card towards all kinds of bill payments.

Whether it is for booking for movie tickets, travel tickets, payment towards parking, BMC holding tax, users’ fee, trade license fee, water bill, shopping in malls or restaurant bill, a single card can be used for all the purposes, a senior official in BSCL said.

The CPCS by the BSCL in partnership with any nationalized bank will be functional on PPP manner, he said.

The BSCL has invited a tender for implementation of the proposed system for citizens in the smart city Bhubaneswar. The applicants can submit the required documents by March 21. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed with the bid winner within 15 days and the smart city card will be prepared within six months. The card will carry the name of Bhubaneswar Smart City and the bank that will prepare the card, the official added.

The smart city people are expected to make cashless transaction of around Rs 30 million towards all types of municipality service fees by 2018.

For wide usage of the card in all the sectors, the swipe machines will be provided by the BSCL and the bid winner bank.

The initiative has been taken to offer all types of services to the denizens in smart way in the smart city Bhubaneswar. The card will work like a wallet linked with the user’s bank account through which cash will be transferred for the service. The smart card can be used for multiple usages throughout Bhubaneswar. Like credit or debit card, the smart card will have password through which it can be accessed. The balance can be kept with the card by transferring cash from the bank account online. The card will be used in the city bus service. Besides, it can be used for bill payments, said BSCL General Manager (operations) Binay Dash.

Counter will be opened in several locations in Bhubaneswar for availability of smart card. This will also be available at the concerned bank and BSCL office, he added.
