Cong calls for Odisha bandh over Kunduli ‘rape’ victim’s death

Bhubaneswar: Protest over the death of Kunduli ‘gang rape’ victim seems to be intensifying with every passing moment as the state unit of Congress today gave a call of Odisha bandh for tomorrow.

Informing about it, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan said the party will observe a 12-hour bandh tomorrow from 6 am to 6 pm across the state.

He has appealed people for their cooperation in making the bandh a successful one. Besides, Harichandan has also demanded resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the issue and strict action against all the culprits in the case.

“We call for a 12 hours Odisha Bandh call on 24th January 2018, Wednesday from 6 AM to 6 PM holding the Government solely responsible for the distressing #KunduliGangRape tragedy,” the official Twitter handle of the Odisha Congress tweeted.

Notably, the minor tribal girl of Sorisapadar village, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year when she was returning from Kunduli market near the village, hanged herself at her house yesterday.

The family members said that she took the extreme step as the officials are in denial mode that she was raped at all.
