Consignment of one lakh Covishield vaccine arrives in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: Amid Covid-19 vaccine shortage which leads to zero vaccination session at several districts in Odisha in past few days, a total of one lakh Covishield vaccine consignment were received by the State government today.

Sources at the Health and Family Welfare Department said a consignment of Covishield vaccine reached Bhubaneswar airport. The sources further said another 10 lakh Covid vaccine are likely to reach the State tomorrow.

Serum Institute of India (SII), which manufactures Covishield, will provide eight lakh vaccine to the State.

On June 28, Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das wrote to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan informing that the State was facing vaccine shortage. He further requested the Union Health Minister to provide additional six lakh doses of Covishield vaccines so that vaccination sessions could be managed in the State.

Due to shortage of vaccine no vaccination session was held in 16 districts today. A total of 114 sessions were planned in the State. Of them, 72 sessions were held in Bhubaneswar.
