Man jumps to death from IDCO Towers in Odisha capital

A contractor jumped to death from atop the IDCO Towers in the Odisha capital today.

The deceased has been identified as Gajendra Das, an ‘A’ class contractor hailing from Kujanga area in Jagatsinghpur district  and was residing in Sarala Nagar in Laxmisagar area of the capital city, reports said.

“We heard a loud thud. Our fellow security guards blew whistles. On hearing that we came here, several others joined us. We saw the man lying here. We informed the police. Later police, 108 ambulance and IDCO officials came here and found him dead,” said Laxmidhar Samal, a security guard posted at IDCO Towers.

According to the deceased contractor’s driver, Gajendra was a contractor and had undertaken construction works of Navodaya schools at Rahama and Konark.

Gajendra had not received his outstanding dues for pretty long time and had come to meet IDCO’s managing director today in this connection but was however, not able to meet the official, the driver told reporters. He had lost his mental balance after not being able meet the official, the driver added.

Gajendra is suspected to have committed suicide.

While the exact reason behind the death is not yet clear, police have registered a case in the matter and investigations are on.
