Contractor shot dead in Odisha’s Ganjam, past enmity suspected

Ganjam: A contractor was allegedly shot dead by three unidentified miscreants at Gothagaon village under Sheragada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district late last night. The deceased has been identified as Jogi Swain.

According to reports, three persons came on a motorcycle and opened fire at Swain in the village. He sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur in a critical condition.

While being shifted from the hospital to Visakhapatnam for better treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

While the reason behind the firing is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the incident was a fallout of past enmity. Involvement of Sibaram Sethi, former Sarpanch of the village, in the killing has been alleged. Police have started investigation into the incident.
