Cook in Odisha school raped, thrown into well!

Incidents of crime against women in Odisha are increasing at an alarming rate as yet another case of alleged rape has been reported less than a week after the last one.

After the shameful Nemalo incident in which a minor girl committed suicide after her sex tape was uploaded on the internet, a woman working as a cook in a school under Nirakarpur police station limits in Khurda district has been allegedly raped repeatedly and an attempt made to murder her.

According to the victim, she was raped inside a classroom repeatedly and was shoved into a sack with her hands and limbs tied.S She was then thrown into a well inside the school campus unaware of the fact that it had dried up in summer and had little water in it.

“He called me to a classroom and bolted it from inside before raping me. When I left the room, he again pulled me back. When I pleaded with him to leave me, he threatened to kill me and raped me again. He then tied my hands and limbs before putting me inside a sack. Later, he threw me inside a well in a bid to kill me,” the victim recounted her ordeal.

The youth allegedly took the victim to the classroom saying that a lady teacher had called her.

“She has survived because the well had dried up. We are trying to ascertain the veracity of the allegations. If somebody has committed the crime, then he would definitely be punished,” the local sarpanch said.

Villagers rescued the victim in a serious condition and admitted her to the district headquarters hospital at Khurda for treatment.

“The villagers rescued the victim from the well and untangled her. Initially, we got a call that she had died but minutes later came to know that she was alive. Our IIC instructed us to provide her medical aid and we left for the spot. The villagers had already rushed her to the hospital in an ambulance before we reached the spot,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, police have begun investigation into the incident.
