Cop critical after being attacked by smugglers in Odisha

Baripada: A police ASI sustained critical injuries after allegedly being attacked by two smugglers and their family members at Dahisahi village under Kaptipada police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The injured cop, identified as Subhendu Behera, Kaptipada police station ASI, has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the ASI had gone to the village for arresting Basant Behera and his brother Hemant Behera on charges of attacking a Revenue Inspector.

The two brothers and their kin attacked the cop leaving him grievously injured. Police have arrested Basant Behera, his wife Lucky Behera, Hemant Behera and his Jayanti Behera in this connection.

Basant and Hemant were allegedly involved in smuggling of stones in the area, for which the Revenue Inspector had seized their vehicle, police sources said.
