Cops seize 195 gm brown sugar in Bhubaneswar; two held

Bhubaneswar: Police seized brown sugar weighing 195 gram and arrested two youths at Salia Sahi area during a raid here today.

The police also seized Rs 3,76,100 cash from the accused persons’ possession during the raid.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off, a team of police under the supervision of Excise Superintendent Prasanna Kumar Acharya raided two houses at Adivasi Village of Salia Sahi slum in Bhubaneswar and seized Rs 19.50 lakh worth brown sugar.

“We seized 195 gram brown sugar that worth around Rs 19.50 lakh and seized Rs 3,76,100 cash from their possession. They were arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and will be produced before a court,” said Sharat Chandra Bhanja, IIC, Flying Squad, Cuttack.

As per the primary investigation, they were collecting the brown sugar from Howarh, Balasore and Jaleswar and keeping those in Khordha from where they were bringing brown sugar on small quantity to Salia Sahi for supply to their clients, he said.

The cop said that the accused have confessed that they were involved in the trade in the past three months.
