Copter-borne Odisha CM at generous best in Ravenshaw

Cuttack, Apr 8:

Perhaps buoyed by the spectacular victory of his party in the civic elections earlier in the day, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was at his generous best as he announced a host of sops worth about Rs 74 crores for Ravenshaw University here today.

“Apart from making the university a fully Wi-Fi campus, the state government has sanctioned Rs 44 crore for improvement in its drainage system, construction of a three-storey Academic Block, an indoor stadium and a sports complex, and a heritage building. The government has also earmarked Rs 30 crore more towards construction of a second campus of the university, which will begin within two months,” Patnaik said while inaugurating the annual day celebration of the Ravenshaw Students’ Union here.

Stating that his government had given priority to quality education in the university, Patnaik said seven smart classrooms would be opened and 267 new teachers appointed to impart uninterrupted teaching.

In a move that has raised both eyebrows and mirth, the Chief Minister traversed the 30-km distance from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack on air and landed in the university campus on a helicopter. He was obviously not taking any chances by travelling on road after what happened during the annual day celebrations of another university in Bhubaneswar on February 19.
