Bhubaneswar: Amidst the coronavirus scare and subsequent surge in demand for hygiene products, the Commissionerate Police (CP) busted a fake handwash and sanitizer manufacturing unit in Jharpara area here yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the CP and Directorate of Drugs Controller conducted a raid in Jharpara area and busted the manufacturing unit. During the search, the cops seized 10 cartons of handwash and huge cache of raw materials used to make handwash and sanitizers. The seized items is estimated to be worth around Rs 3 lakh.
Besides sealing the unit named SS Industries, the cops registered a case against its owner and are further investigating into the incident.
Earlier this month, the state Government had warned that stern action will be taken against those involved in black marketing of essential items like protective masks, handwash and sanitizers during the lockdown.
