Balangir, Feb 11:

While distribution of money to fetch votes in election has become common practice, a Samiti Member candidate opted a hatke method by allegedly trying to distribute cosmetics among women in Odisha’s Balangir district which landed him in trouble as police have seized the items.

According to reports, villagers spotted some youths carrying several cartoon boxes on bikes and detained them in suspicion.

However, the youths couldn’t give satisfactory answer to the villagers regarding the purpose of carrying the cartoons and fled the spot throwing the boxes on roadside.

The villagers informed police about the incident following which cops reached the spot and seized cosmetic items from the boxes meant to be distributed among female voters in a bid to fetch votes from them.

Sources said, police have seized seven cartoons containing cosmetic items packed in sweet boxes on which posters of Banamali Khamari, a Samiti Member candidate of Sulekela Gram Panchayat under Belapada block in the district, were pasted.

Police have started investigation into the matter after registering a case into the incident.
