Couple dupes BTech student in ‘Bunty Babli’ style in Odisha; arrested

Puri: A married couple was arrested for allegedly duping an engineering student of Bhubaneswar in Bollywood movie ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ style here today.

The accused was identified as Santosh Kumar Dash alias Raja (30) and his wife Riya Dash (21), the residents of Kalikadevi Sahi under Town Police limits in Puri district.

The couple was arrested following a complaint by Sashibhushan Sahoo (21), a B.Tech student studying at an institute in Bhubaneswar and the resident of Barokholi under Oupada police limits of Balasore district, on Nov 20.

A case has been registered under section 420, 392 and 34 of IPC and R/w 25 of Arms Act.

During an investigation, the police seized a robbed gold chain, a big knife, toy gun and a scooter (TVS Jupiter used by the accused person. The cops also seized two mobile phones and documents from the house of the accused couple.

According to reports, Riya had trapped the student on the pretext of friendship and love on Facebook. After getting his phone number, she started chatting with the youth on WhatsApp and Messenger. When he fell in love with her, she asked him to meet her in Puri, where her husband Santosh alias Raja robbed him at a knifepoint.

The complainant alleged that the girl trapped him in her false love. When he reached Puri on Nov 12 and tried to contact the girl, she asked him to come to a location near Nari Seva Sadan Chhak. After he arrived at the scheduled place, a man suddenly came and showed his photo downloaded by the girl from the Facebook. He was convinced that the man will take him to the girl.

Later, the accused took Sahoo to an unknown location where he robbed him of valuables including a gold chain and cash.

After the investigation, we arrested the couple. The woman identified as Riya Dash was chatting with people on Facebook created as Angel Riya. She had deleted all the chat history from her Facebook account. We collected WhatsApp chat history during the investigation, said Puri Town Police IIC.

Earlier, the couple was arrested and sent to jail in a similar kind of case registered in 2016.
