Couple hacked to death over farmland dispute in Odisha

In a shocking incident assailants hacked to death a couple today over a land dispute in Bagabahal village of Guna panchayat under Tusra police station limits in Odisha’s Bolangir district.

The assailants have also attacked the two daughters of the couple who have sustained grievous injuries and have been admitted to hospitals.

The deceased have been identified as Madhu Mugri and Saki Mugri.

While one of the injured daughters, Rashmita has been admitted to the Bolangir district headquarters hospital, her sister Chandrika has been shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science And Research (VIMSAR) as her condition deteriorated.

“Mugri couple wanted to grab land belonging to the opposite party-Dharua family. While the couple and their daughters were tilling the said piece of land, members of the Dharua family arrived at the spot. The couple had an altercation with the Dharua family over the land following which Dharua family members attacked the couple with an axe. Both the husband and wife were grievously hurt and have succumbed to their injuries,” told Sashi Bhushan Satpathy, ASP Bolangir to reporters speaking on the incident.
