COVID-19 crisis: Curfew imposed in Odisha district till end of lockdown

Jagatsinghpur: In view of increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases across Odisha, Jagatsinghpur Collector announced curfew in the district to combat the deadly virus.

The curfew will be in force from 7.00 pm to 7.00 am everyday for 12 hours in entire district till end of lockdown.

The move has been taken for safety of people amid corona scare, informed Jagatsinghpur Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra today.

With enforcement of curfew across the district, movement of individuals for non-essential activities will not be allowed except for essential services, Jagatsinghpur district administration stated.

Even though the coastal district is yet to report maiden case of COVID-19, the curfew has been clamped as part of precautionary measure to fight the deadly virus. The nationwide lockdown is slated to end on May 17.

Earlier, the district administration had imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in and around Maa Sarala Temple and Bhagabati Temple prohibiting mass congregation during Jhamu Jatra (religious event) for three days. The restriction was also clamped at Baba Gorekhnath Temple for a Yajna for a week to prevent possible spread of COVID-19 infections.
