COVID-19: Sero survey begins in one more town in Odisha

Paralakhemundi:  To analyse the extent and penetration of COVID-19 infection, a serological survey began in Paralakhemundi town of Gajapati district today.

A 15-member team from ICMR-Regional Medical Research Center (RMRC), Bhubaneswar has been engaged to accompany the health officials and municipality staff there in the survey. Total five teams, have been engaged for the task. 

In the first phase, 50 samples each will be collected from 20 localities in the town, said official sources.

Meanwhile, the district administration thanked the locals for extending support to the survey.  Collector Anupam Saha today visited all swab collection centres  to take stock.

“The survey will reveal the rate of penetration and antibodies developed in the people. Based on the survey report, further measures will be taken to curb the virus transmission,” the Collector said and called upon people of all age groups to come forward voluntarily and participate in the survey.

Besides, samples of around 500 fronline warriors  engaged in the COVID-19 battle will be collected for the survey, said the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).

The district has so far reported 3233 positive cases, including 198 active cases. However, 3016 patients have recovered and 18 succumbed to the virus.
