COVID patient lying naked in Odisha hospital: Admin denies negligence

Baripada: A day after allegation of sheer negligence done towards a patient at Bankisole COVID Hospital in Mayurbhanj district surfaced on social media, Collector Vineet Bhardwaj visited the hospital for an inquiry today.

It is pertinent to mention here that videos and pictures showing a COVID patient lying naked under a wash basin went viral on social media yesterday questioning healthcare services at the hospital.

Accompanied by district ADM, Baripada PA ITDA, CDMO, PHO, authorised medical officer and a team of other doctors, the Collector conducted an inquiry and found the allegation to be false and baseless. He also went to different wards of the hospital and interacted with the patients.

Besides, he reviewed various arrangements, including treatment protocols, provision of oxygen to the patients, food, cleanliness of toilets and functioning of Help Desk at the hospital.

“The patient had neurological problems and was going through alcohol withdrawal symptom. He was being given proper treatment and care by both doctors and nurses at the hospital. All the doctors, nurses and administrative staff in the hospital are working round-the-clock and risking their lives to provide quality treatment and care to each and every patient admitted to the COVID
hospital,” said an official statement issued by the Collector.
