Bhubaneswar: As Europe is facing real threat of COVID-19 resurgence, a top health official in Odisha said that the upsurge was due to delta variant, which has caused maximum fatalities in second wave of the pandemic in the State.
“The surge in COVID cases in Europe and China is due to delta variant that Odisha has already faced in second wave,” Odisha Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra told media today.
“As the vaccination is underway in Odisha and people have developed immunity, there is no reason to worry about the situation alarming in Europe and China,” the official said.
Even though the daily COVID cases seems to be declining in India, the threat of third wave still is still prevailing.
The official suggested people to remain alert to face imminent third wave without being frightened by the virus.
The single-day COVID cases significantly dropped in Odisha with only 170 infections in last 24 hours. The TPR in the State fell to 0.30% showing positive sign in fight against the virus.
