Addressing party workers and supporters here, CPI (M) Bhubaneswar regional committee secretary Prabhat Panigrahy said the scam occurred due to the lackadaisical attitude of the General Administration (GA), Housing and Urban Development and Revenue departments of the State. “Now the State Government has engaged senior officials of the departments to investigate the case. This is nothing but a mere eyewash,” said Panigrahy.

Party leaders Suresh Panigrahy, Sarat Das, Sal Marandi and DYFI State president Jatin Mohanty demanded stringent action against the persons who have got more than one plot from the State Government under the discretionary quota violating the law. The leaders urged the State Government to provide at least 435 square ft plot to each homeless family residing in the city after cancelling the allotment of houses and land to the corrupt.

“It is not a small issue. There are several influential persons like Kalpataru Das from the ruling party involved in the scam. The CBI alone can can conduct an independent probe into the matter,” said the party leaders.

“A massive rally would be organised by the party very soon protesting the scam,” the party leaders warned.
