Crackdown on fake spices manufacturing unit in Odisha’s Jeypore

Jeypore: The police busted a fake spices manufacturing unit with the seizure of a huge cache of raw materials and adulterated spices of several brands here late night on Thursday.

A team of Jeypore Town Police raided the house belonging to one identified as Harihar Patra at P.R Petta lane in Jeypore town of Koraput district and seized several items and raw materials worth around Rs 5 lakh for production of duplicate spices.

The machinery used for packaging the duplicate spices in branded packets were also seized during the raid.

Police detained Patra in connection with the operation of the fake spices factory.

According to reports, the duplicate spices in name of popular brands like Everest and MDH were manufactured at the factory and were transported to the markets in undivided Koraput. The packets were brought from Berhampur in Ganjam district.

“We had information that the duplicate spices of Everest brand are being packaged illegally here at P.R Petta lane. We conducted the raid at the house and found lose spices in the packet of popular brands. The raw materials were brought from Berhampur. Raids will also be conducted in other places in connection with it,” said Jeypore town police IIC Baleswar Giddhi.

Police launched an operation to nab the prime accused in connection with the fake spices manufacturing.

Earlier, the adulterated oil manufacturing unit was busted last year in Cuttack.
