Crime branch files chargesheet against Sura Baba

Odisha Crime branch today filed a chargesheet against Surendranath Mishra alias Sura Baba in Chhatrapur SDJM court in connection with alleged land grab in Chhatrapur.

Earlier a complaint had been lodged by Motiram Sahu in Chhatrapur Police Station alleging land grab against the self proclaimed godman. The Crime branch later took over the case and Sura Baba had been presented in Chhatrapur SDJM court in September 2014.

As per the complaint lodged by Sahu, Sura Baba had grabbed about one acre of land from him forcibly.

“Based on the FIR of Motiram Sahu in Chhatrapur Police Station on September 3, 2015, Crime branch conducted the investigation and today submitted the chargesheet under section 420, 423, 467, 468, 471, 506, 123 and 406 of IPC,” said Government Attorney Manoj Padhi.

Sura Baba’s lawyer Suresh Senapati, however, said that there is no truth in the allegation.

“The Crime branch has submitted its chargesheet. We would submit a copy of the chargesheet in the upper court. Surendranath Mishra’s bail plea is under consideration in High Court. It is pending. The allegations against him are baseless. The complainant has lodged the complaint in order to extract some money from my client,” said Senapati.
