Criminal injured in police encounter in Odisha; 1 kg gold seized

Bhanjanagar: As many as one kg of gold was seized from notorious criminal Babu Nayak who got injured in an encounter with police near Gurudapathar under Bhanjanagar police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Acting on a tip-off regarding presence of Babu at Gurudapathar, Bhanjanagar and Tarasingh police conducted a joint raid.

In a bid to escape, he opened fire at the cops following which the latter retaliated in which he sustained bullet injuries on his legs and right hand.

Police have also seized a bike and bomb from the spot.

He has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Babu was involved in the Utkal Gramya Bank loot incident in Buguda block of Ganjam district. More than 40 cases including those of dacoity and loot are pending against him at various police stations, police sources said.
