Crop loss in over 3.15 lakh ha, says Odisha Min

Bhubaneswar: Over 3.15 lakh hectares in 1,125 gram panchayats spread across 70 blocks in 15 districts have been affected by crop loss in the State, informed Odisha Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty.

“We have received reports of crop loss in over 3.15 lakh hectares in 1,125 gram panchayats spread in 70 blocks in 15 districts. This assessment has been made on the basis of field survey,” said Mohanty briefing reporters here today.

“We will again hold a meeting on October 27 with the concerned departments and after that, we will submit the final report to the Chief Minister. After that the Chief Minister will make an announcement on packages/assistance, etc,” he added.

Bolangir is the worst affected district with as many as 14 of its blocks have being been affected, the Revenue Minister said adding that Bargarh district is second with 10 blocks while five blocks have been affected in Nuapada district.

On the other hand, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said reports that have come from the District Collectors are being compiled and October 30 is the deadline.

“We have received reports from the District Collectors, those are being compiled. A final report will be drawn up after these are processed latest by October 30, which is our deadline. The government will make an announcement before that,” informed Sethi.
