The Vigilance sleuths caught him red-handed while he was receiving the bribe from a medicine wholesaler identified as Subhasish Ray from Jajpur area.

Following his arrest, Sinha confessed that he accepted the money from the wholesaler as directed by Cuttack Drugs Inspector Jagannath Mallick.

The Vigilance has detained Mallick following the tip-off and conducted raids on houses of both accused.

According to Vigilance SP Basant Kumar Panigrahi, Subhasish had applied for a licence at Cuttack Drugs Inspector’s office with all necessary documents. Sinha, however, had asked him to pay up Rs 18,000 bribe even after submitting all required documents.

Ray had filed a complaint with Bhubaneswar Vigilance after the incident.

Acting on the complaint, Bhubaneswar Vigilance had sent a special team to Cuttack that caught Sinha on the act.

The Vigilance also plans to arrest Mallick for his alleged complicity in the case, Panigrahi informed.
