Cyclone Gulab: IMD revises landfall time prediction, issues fresh forecast

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its prediction regarding landfall time of Cyclone Gulab.

While it had earlier forecasted that the cyclone was likely to cross north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam & Gopalpur around evening of 26th September, the agency in its latest bulletin issued this morning said the system is likely to cross north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur around midnight of September 26.

“The Cyclonic Storm ‘Gulab’ (pronounced as GulAab) over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal moved nearly westwards with a speed of 10 kmph during last 06 hours and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of 26th September 2021, over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal near Lat. 18.3°N and Long. 87.3°E, about 270 km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) & 330 km east of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh),” a bulletin of the IMD said.

It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam & Gopalpur around mid-night of September 26, the bulletin added.
