Bhubaneswar, May 21:

Cyclone Roanu continues to move away from Odisha and is well on its course towards making landfall near Bangladesh.

Cyclone Roanu gone

While no loss of life or property has been reported anywhere in Odisha because of the cyclone so far, heavy to very heavy rainfall was reported across coastal Odisha. While Paradip experienced 164 mm rainfall, Puri saw 86 mm.

As per the morning bulletin of IMD, even though the danger has passed for the state, coastal pockets are likely to witness heavy rains over the next 24 hours.

The sea, however, continues to be rough and IMD has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea.

The cyclone currently lays centred about 160 kilometres away from the Paradip Coast and is moving at a speed of 25 kilometres per hour.

“Odisha coast continues to experiences wind speed up to 35 kilometres per hour. Given the shallow depth of the sea in north Odisha, the sea continues to be rough and waves as high as 1-1.5 metres are being experienced. We advise the fishermen not to venture into the sea,” said Regional Meteorological Centre Director Sarat Sahu.

The weather would become drier as the day proceeds and temperature are likely to rise tomorrow onwards, he added.

The cyclone is likely to cross Bangladesh coast near Khepupara and Cox Bazaar this evening.
