Cyclone Titli: Odisha CM directs officials to complete restoration works within deadline

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed the concerned officials to complete the post-restoration works in cyclone-hit districts within the specified deadline.

Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts were badly affected by the cyclone Titli and subsequent floods.

The CM has instructed the officials after presiding over a high-level review meeting on the post-cyclone restoration works at State Secretariat this afternoon.

Patnaik directed officials to complete the restoration works of road, drinking water, electricity and assessment of damages in these districts at the earliest.

“Five days later, independent observers will be sent to the affected areas to inspect the progress of the renovation and reconstruction works,” the CM added.

In the meeting it was revealed that all roads under the public works department have been renovated. Similarly, the works related to the renovation of rural development department roads, breaches in canals and minor irrigation projects will be completed within four-five days.

Power supply has been restored in most of the areas of Rayagada district barring some remote areas. Electricity connection to all gram panchayat offices in these four districts will be restored within four days.

Apart from providing financial assistance of Rs 1000, 50 kg of rice and 2.5 litres of kerosene to each affected families as a special relief, the CM directed the officials to deposit the remaining Rs 2000 in the account of these families through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode at the earliest.

Among others, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi and secretaries and senior officials of the department concerned were present at the meeting.
