Cyclone Yaas likely to make landfall between 4 AM and 8 AM tomorrow: Odisha SRC

Bhubaneswar: The impending very severe cyclonic storm Yaas will make landfall between Basudevpur of Bhadrak district and Bahanaga of Balasore district tomorrow, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Odisha, Pradeep Kumar Jena on Tuesday evening.

Wind speed during the landfall of Cyclone Yaas will be around 140-155 kmph. Gusting wind speed is likely to be 180 kmph, he added.

The SRC further stated the landfall process will be between 4 AM and 8 AM on May 26.

A total of 77 blocks have been kept under high impact zone category.

The sea tide will be about 4 meters at some places, the SRC added.

The State government has so far evacuated 2.5 lak people from laow lying and vulnerable areas to safer places so far, he informed, adding that the evacuation will be completed by 9 PM today.

He warned people against venturing out from their home and taking selfies during the cyclone.

Five blocks have witnessed 100 mm rain whereas 30 other blocks experienced 50 mm rain.

The SRC added wind speed and intensity of rain will increase after 9 PM today.
