D-brothers Link: Odisha HC grants bail to Corporator Ranjita Biswal

Cuttack:  In a big relief to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Corporator Ranjita Biswal, who was arrested for her alleged links with gangster brothers Sushant and Sushil Dhalasamant, the Orissa High Court (HC) here granted conditional bail to her today.

The court approved her bail plea against Rs 20,000 bond and two sureties.

On March 7 this year, the Commissionerate police had arrested Biswal, Ward-7 Corporator, for allegedly supplying firearms to Mrityunjay Nayak alias Miku, who had attempted to kill contractor Bijan Pal on February 23, at the behest of Sushant Dhalasamant.

Police had earlier grilled Biswal in 2016 for her alleged links with the D-brothers. She was the joint secretary of Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh, which was formed by the gangster brothers.

It was alleged that the Dhalasamant brothers used to spread their crime network through the outfit by organising various social activities. However, the Sangh was dissolved following the arrest of the D-brothers.

Biswal was dismissed from BJD’s primary membership following her arrest.
