Dacoit gang busted in Odisha capital, seven nabbed

The Quick Action Team (QAT) of Commissionerate Police, which  busted a dacoit gang and arrested its seven members in the Odisha’s capital in the late night yesterday, forwarded them to the court today.

Acting on a tip-off that the gang was planning to commit dacoity in the Old Town area,the QAT and the Lingaraj Police raided Mula Padia and arrested seven members of the gang.

The arrested have been identified as Bilu Nayak of Jharana Sahi Basti in Bhubaneswar, Gedu alias Sanjay Naik of Manapur, Kulamani Sahu alias Kulu of Panchhida, Maguni alias Rajkishore Swain of Kanchhida, Babu alias Babula Moharana of Konchhida, Lakhia Nayak alias Nakhia of Kalyanpur and Siba Prasad Nayak alias Guddu of Kalyanpur.

Barring Bilu, the six arrested dacoits belong to Sarankul area of Nayagarh district.

Police seized two country-made guns, two live cartridges, three sharp weapons, two iron rods, one motor cycle and five mobile phones from their possession.

According to police, Bilu has 14 crimes including murder and robbery.

Verification of the antecedents of other six dacoits is on, they added.
