Daitapati, 11 others arrested for gambling get bail in Odisha

A local court in Odisha’s pilgrim town Puri granted bail to 12 persons, including a Daitapati, who were arrested yesterday evening on gambling charges.

Puri Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court granted bail to the all the arrested persons.

Following a tip off, a joint team of Special Squad and Kumbharpada police raided an underconstruction multi-storey building besides Bholanath Vidyapeeth near Badasankha in the city.

During the raid, 12 persons, including Daitapati Nijog secretary and Jagannath Temple Managing Committee secretary Premananda Dasmohapatra, were arrested from the spot on gambling charges.

The Kumbharpada police seized Rs 1, 69, 280, eight motorcycles and seven mobile phones from the spot. All the arrested persons were forwarded to court late in the evening.

The place where the raid was conducted reportedly belongs to one Muna Patnaik who is the brother-in-law of Bishnu Mohanty, the elder brother of senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty.
