Bhubaneswar, Feb 20:
A day after renowned film maker Nirad Mahapatra passed away at a Mumbai hospital, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday expressed his deep condolences over his death.
Patnaik said Mahapatra was unparalalled as a maker of art movies. “He had had a rare ability to depict the essence of Odia society through his films. He was the symbol of artistic creativity. ‘Maya Miriga’ directed by him will remain a milestone in the history of Odia cinema,” the Chief Minister gushed.
“Odisha lost a talented son in his death,” Patnaik signed off expressing his deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Given the fulsome praise showered on the departed filmmaker, one wonders why it took the Chief Minister, normally very prompt in sending out condolence messages, more than a day and a half to condole the death of Nirad Mahapatra. There is perhaps even a case for wondering whether it was an afterthought after all !
