Dead baby girl comes back to life in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: In a weird development, a newborn baby girl, who was pronounced dead by nurses at a hospital, came back to life here.

Following the news the medical staff hurriedly brought both the mother and baby girl to the hospital for treatment.

According to reports, Gurubari (55), wife of Sanatan Tiria in Haladia panchayat under Sukruli block in Mayurbhanj district, was admitted to Sukruli Community Health Centre (CHC) after she suffered labour pain on Wednesday midnight. She delivered a baby girl at around 1 am. However, the nurses attending the patient discharged her from the hospital on Thursday morning pronouncing the baby as dead.

After reaching home along with the baby girl, Gurubari found her baby alive. The ASHA worker informed the hospital about the baby following which the medical staff took both mother and baby to the hospital by 102 ambulance.

As the condition of baby was not well, she was shifted to Karanjia hospital.

However, the hospital authorities denied the report that baby was declared dead.

The baby was not declared dead; rather the hospital brought back the newborn and her mother after they came to know that baby was taken to home by mother, said Sukruli CHC medical officer Dr Kunal Patra.

He remained silent when asked how the mother and newborn were discharged from hospital before 48 hours of delivery.
