Death toll in Odisha food poisoning case rises to four

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Cuttack, July 30:

With the death of three out of the seven persons admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMH) here on Tuesday, the death toll in the suspected food poisoning case at Dalimbapur in Odisha’s Keonjhar district has risen to four.

One person had died at Keonjhar district headquarters hospital on Monday.

Sources at the SCBMH said the condition of the other four is stable and they are under round-the-clock observation.

Reports said members of a farmer’s family in Dalimbapur village under Keonjhar block in Keonjhar district and five farm labourers had consumed rice and dalma at the farmer’s residence on Sunday evening.

Around midnight, one Saraswati Dehury (27) complained of giddiness and started vomiting. By the next morning all the eight had developed similar symptoms. They were then admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Keonjhar, where doctors declared Saraswati Dehury as brought dead.

As the condition of the other patients was deteriorating fast, they were  referred to the SCBMH.

Srimati Dehury (29) and Kandi Dehury (26) died here while undergoing treatment on Tuesday, sources said.

It is still not clear whether it was stale food or  the presence of some poisonous insects that had led to the problem.
